My Story
Federico Cortez is the founder and principal advisor of SonFed Financial & Insurance Services, bringing over two decades of experience in financial management, bookkeeping, and insurance consulting. Known for his analytical skill, client-focused approach, and operational excellence, Fred has built a career defined by integrity, leadership, and results.
He began his career as a full-charge bookkeeper and later became Property Manager for a Section 8 project-based housing complex, where he oversaw accounting operations, compliance, payroll, and tenant relations. Over 15 years, he transformed that role into a model of efficiency and accountability — gaining deep expertise in both private and public sector financial management.
Expanding into insurance and tax services, Fred earned multiple state licenses including Life, Health, Property, and Casualty (Texas & New Mexico). His professional path also includes serving as an Implementation Specialist II at ADP, where he customized client databases, enhanced workflow efficiency, and provided technical onboarding for Time & Attendance systems.
As a Tax Expert with Intuit (TurboTax) and Licensed Broker Agent, Fred further honed his understanding of federal tax law, ACA/Medicare plans, and financial compliance — combining these disciplines into SonFed’s holistic service approach.
Fred holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Texas at El Paso and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from El Paso Community College. He is QuickBooks Online Certified, bilingual in English and Spanish, and holds additional credentials as an Occupancy Specialist and E.I.V. Specialist through NCHM.
A natural problem-solver and community advocate, Fred is dedicated to helping clients reach financial stability through education, transparency, and practical strategies tailored to their needs.
